They got me in and out in an hour very reasonably.
Fast and honest
I called around auto parts stores, and they said the starter would run around $130 bucks. Sandy's tried to double the price, which I've heard is very common. I refused to spend that kind of money, and picked up my car. 30 minutes later my car electrical system went nuts, the radio and all the lights/dashboard kept turning on and off with the key not even in the ignition. Had to have my car towed home.
I have been looking for a starter everywhere, I went in there to see if they could rebuild it. She was able to find me one where no one else was able to.
I asked the mechanic if he had even tested the starter the first time I brought it in, and he made up some lame excuse about how it could have been anything. To top it off, they said the starter would be almost $300, and including labor it would be close to $400 bucks. I was like I already paid you $80 bucks for the "labor" since the diagnostic test was free since I decided to proceed with the repair.
My car was just randomly not starting, so I suspected a starter issue. I dropped off my car, and it took them almost three days to "diagnose my car." They said that my automatic car starter was shorting out my car, so they removed the fuses. They said the starter was fine. I paid them the 80 some bucks and went on my way. Then a few days later the same issue started back up. They said to bring it back in and they will double check everything.
I was recommended to visit Sandy's because I was told that they are the best place in town and both fast/fair . I dropped off my car, and was told that they will diagnose my problem, but if I decide not to get it fixed I will have to pay for a diagnostic test (I remember it was around $80 bucks. Fair enough, their time was valuable.
Try them
Serpentine belt and pulley with bearings all went at once
The tow truck driver mentioned I should have my battery checked. I did just that, and they said the battery was almost completely dead. So I replaced the batter and my car never had this problem again. Come on Sandy's, isn't it pretty common to check the damn battery! I feel like I saved myself hundreds of dollars by refusing service from them. How many people have they ripped off???
I had my heater/defroster fan short out and leave me with no heat and icy windows on the coldest day yet this year I took the car to Sandys and on the same day they replaced the motor and resistor block and did it fast and very reasonably. Fast Courteous Reasonable Thanks
Best mechanics in town!
Update Late November 2015
Several days later I get a call stating that it was the starter after all. The way that they diagnosed it being a starter issue is that they "banged the starter with a hammer and they car started after that." Is that even a valid diagnostic test?
Dave Whitaker owns and runs the place and is an honest man
Sandy's has propven to me through the years that they are efficient, reliable and most importantly, HONEST.
I send my friends to them whenever I get the chance.
